I learned all about cell biology and physiology. For this, I used the book "Molecular Biology of the Cell" by Bruce Alberts, which is a very voluminous book which contains all information about human cells that one can think of. I could never have imagined, that there is so much to know about these little cells. We also spoke about embryology, because of how the cells in early human development are imprinted.
I also learned something about flow cytometry, which is what my mother worked on for her doctoral thesis. As I was practically born in the lab - my mother worked in a research lab while pregnant and took me with her within 5 days after birth - it was very interesting to visit the lab, where I used to sleep next to the door.
We delved into physiology and I learned a lot about the inner workings of the human body. Especially all of the processes pertaining to sport and how the body regulates heat, hydration and circulation are very interesting, because I do a lot of sports. The nervous system was also interesting as our nerves work with electrical voltage differences, which is very intricate.
I participated in the European conference of the World Organization of family doctors in Brussels. There were several interesting talks that I attended on the subject of infective endocarditis, hypersomnia, cancer prevention, heart health and psychological resilience
In the months prior to the conference, I helped with a scientific research project on women's health in primary care and for that reason was also mentioned as a co-author in the abstract (page 284). We researched about different aspects of women's health and how they were organized in various European countries. This was quite interesting to me, but I discovered, that research can be a very time consuming endeavor.
There was a conference dinner and I participated in the reception and the dinner. These were in a museum in Belgium for a famous illustrator and writer of comic books, named Hergé, who also wrote "the adventures of Tintin".
In the picture of the evening below, you can see me standing in the foreground at a table with 3 other participants of the conference. I was wearing a dark blue shirt.
